Nursing Home Abuse Lawyers: Unsafe Facilities Can Cost Taxpayers

Inadequate nursing home facilities are not only dangerous and harmful to the residents and their loved ones. As nursing home abuse lawyers, we see how these bad facilities can affect a wide range of people. From the employees who have to work in poor conditions for often little pay, law enforcement who need to check up on these homes and county workers and tax payers who end up paying for lawsuits and fines when care is not adequate.

Facility Loses Insurance Provider After Several Accidents and Deaths

nursing home abuse lawyersA county owned nursing home facility in Ballston Spa, NY has lost its insurance coverage after authorities discovered injuries to some of their residents and the suspicious deaths of a couple others. Maplewood Manor’s insurance provider has decided not to renew their contract after these incidents resulted in lawsuits against the home and Saratoga County. “It’s just not profitable for that company to stay with us anymore,” Deputy Administrator Ryan Moore said about the dropped coverage. Because the facility has to switch providers, which will probably be more expensive, the tax payer will have to pick up the difference.

One of the suspicious deaths at Maplewood Manor was Carlton Decker, 85-years-old, who was found outside on the morning of December 22, 2012 and later died at a local hospital. The details of his death are unknown but no criminal charges or lawsuits were filed. The other incident involved Janice Woodley, 83-years-old, who was administered a dose of insulin that was meant to be given to her roommate. Woodley died 16 days later. Her husband is suing both the facility and county for his wife’s death. The home has decided on a new insurance company, but the rates for the county are going to rise 10. 5 percent, about $87,300.

  1. Help for the family of Korean war vet and kidney transplant survivor, Harold Sharp

A nursing home in Westchester Co. NY. retaliated against us by filing a guardianship petiition for my uncle… over a 54K bill that we offered to pay. They did not want us to review their billing and other paperwork that was signed and were angry that we complained about my uncle being removed from his medication for depression and memory loss. As well as the fact that they did not protect him from a grifter we identified and told them not to let visit him… They never filed reports with the state and provided no assistance, now they will not release his medical records to the hospital, even though they identified him as having malignant prostate cancer… To add insult to injury, at the guardianship proceeding they told lies about the family, lies that can easily be proved false… Then, last week, they had the nerve to contact us and offer to “allow” us to save money by paying a lesser amount then they originally asked for!!! They need to be exposed !
