Nursing home abuse has affected millions of people in the United States because, for such a long time, nursing homes were the only option a family had when their loved one's physical state required additional help. However, according to census data, only 7.4% of elderly Americans are living in nursing homes, a number that has fallen from the 8.1% in 1990.
